Grant Shapps Grilled by Julia Hartley-Brewer About Breaking Promise

by Michael Curzon
10 March 2021 12:16 PM

In January, Grant Shapps said that if the Government did not fully unlock the country by early March after the most vulnerable groups were vaccinated, he would personally stand “on the barricades to get [all of] our freedoms back”. This date has passed, and restrictions are to remain in place for at least another three months, but Mr Shapps has lost his nerve.

He appeared on Julia Hartley-Brewer’s talkRADIO show this morning and was forced to listen to his promise to stand up to the Government two months ago if it continued to keep hold of Britons’ liberty. Mr Shapps claimed his promise had not been broken as we are now “starting to get our freedoms back”. He insisted that he “stand[s] by what we were saying before”, and then went on to contradict what he said before.

“If there hadn’t been a roadmap, if we were saying these cases are coming down but we’re not going to tell you how we’re going to get out of lockdown, then you and I would be out there.”

Julia and Transport Secretary Grant Shapps clash over a promise he made in January to join Julia "on the barricades to get our freedoms back" once the over 70s had been vaccinated.

Julia was having none of it. She pointed out the fact that more of the over 70s have been vaccinated than we had expected, and at a quicker rate too. The effectiveness of a single dose of the vaccine is also greater than was originally presumed. So, she asked, “how could you possibly say you stand by what you said in January”? Mr Shapps’ response featured a lot of political talk – highlighting that “everybody… has contributed enormously to what has been a very difficult and painful year” – and a reutterance of the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown, which contradicts his previously stated position. His words were littered with the phrases “all being well” and “earliest dates”.

“The goalposts always move, don’t they. They’re going to keep moving forever.” Julia asked – in a question which rather answers itself – “do you understand why lots of people don’t trust the Government anymore?”

She seemed to give up completely when Mr Shapps said “I want you to have your civil liberties back, but I don’t want you to have them back in a way that kills other people”. Will this ever end?

Worth watching in full.

Ban cars, ban abortions, ban smoking, ban drinking, ban visiting anybody in a care home ever, ban sneezing in public

Ban lockdown – this biggest killer this year

The government has a shed load of vaccines (400 million and rising), and if these are not to go the same way as its earlier irresponsible purchase of not-fit-for-purpose PPE (or the panic driven Nightingale follies) Boris and chums are going to be jabbing this gene therapy muck into us on a regular basis for the the foreseeable future. Unless journalists and voters start to challenge this ridiculous and oft repeated spin that one wears a mask/takes a jab to protect others then we are fooked. Liberty cannot be given back in instalments, it is essentially indivisible and it is NOT the government’s to take away. For a year now UK citizens have listened and voluntarily (albeit under pressure) gone along with (as opposed to obeying) draconian ministerial decrees – to the point where Shapps & Co are deluded enough to believe they hold our rights and liberties in their hands to take back and return as they see fit – THEY DO NOT! We can take back our liberties at any time, and (in agreement with JHB) that time is now. There needs to be a spontaneous EASTER UPRISING to stretch the police force to breaking point, and to… Read more »

We need a mass civil disobedience day when everyone tears up their masks in public. It’s a start and sends a strong message.

Its not a question of getting our civil liberties back – no (democratic) government has the right to take them away – which is why all this BS is guidance and not law……its voluntary and they rely on propaganda and the idiocy of the general population to obey. It is a matter of the population taking responsibility for their own actions and the consequences of those actions – by force of law if necessary. But we have bred several generations of people who believe that everything they think, say and do is the fault of someone else if it goes wrong. And therefore its someone elses responsibility to prevent them from thinking, saying or doing something. That isnt going to change – its ingrained in the majority of people (see the Meghan Markle interview for the latest classic example). But what needs to happen is not the state accommodating these people and mopping their weary brows, but the state ignoring them and their self-deluded demands, and if it must, tell them to grow a pair, stop being so feeble-minded and pathetic and take some responsibility. Now – who in politics is going to do that? They wouldnt tolerate it in… Read more »

To follow Shapps’ logic we will lock down for the next bad flu season when there is a more dangerous strain or the vaccine is less effective.

Mr Shapps said “I want you to have your civil liberties back, but I don’t want you to have them back in a way that kills other people”.
This is the foundation of the biosecurity fascist totalitarian state now being erected in the anglosphere and some european nations.
‘They’ decide when. if we have our freedoms based on their ever-changing rules. They impose controls that are being developed and implemented every day.
If people do not rise up against this tyranny very soon it will be too late, it just might already be so.

Shapps is a perfect illustration of what is wrong with the lockdownistas: inconvenient facts just do not exist for them.

All the costs are future and right now the feeling that seeking a quicker exit means killing people makes the lockdown largely supported.
But pols should remember that in six months, when job losses mount, cancer deaths rise and taxes begin to hit…they will forget they supported this policy, and put the blame right on Boris and Co.
