Millions Are Skipping Their Second Doses of Covid Vaccines in the U.S.

by Michael Curzon
25 April 2021 4:31 PM

A number of U.S. states recently warned that they were running out of people willing to take a Covid vaccine. New reports suggest that a fairly significant proportion of Americans who have received their first dose of a vaccine are unwilling – or believe there is no need – to take a second. Reasons include a fear of the side effects and the belief that one dose offers enough protection against Covid. The New York Times has the story.

Millions of Americans are not getting the second doses of their Covid vaccines, and their ranks are growing.

More than five million people, or nearly 8% of those who got a first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, have missed their second doses, according to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That is more than double the rate among people who got inoculated in the first several weeks of the nationwide vaccine campaign.

Even as the country wrestles with the problem of millions of people who are wary about getting vaccinated at all, local health authorities are confronting an emerging challenge of ensuring that those who do get inoculated are doing so fully.

The reasons vary for why people are missing their second shots. In interviews, some said they feared the side effects, which can include flu-like symptoms. Others said they felt that they were sufficiently protected with a single shot.

Those attitudes were expected, but another hurdle has been surprisingly prevalent. A number of vaccine providers have cancelled second-dose appointments because they ran out of supply or didn’t have the right brand in stock.

Walgreens, one of the biggest vaccine providers, sent some people who got a first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine to get their second doses at pharmacies that only had the other vaccine on hand.

Several Walgreens customers said in interviews that they scrambled, in some cases with help from pharmacy staff, to find somewhere to get the correct second dose. Others, presumably, simply gave up.

Many states anticipated that vaccine hesitancy rates would increase as the rollout progressed and are now implementing a number of schemes to try to ensure that uptake remains high.

In Arkansas and Illinois, health officials have directed teams to call, text or send letters to people to remind them to get their second shots. In Pennsylvania, officials are trying to ensure that college students can get their second shots after they leave campus for the summer. South Carolina has allocated several thousand doses specifically for people who are overdue for their second shot.

“You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time…”

The USA has seemingly just caught onto Abe’s dictum.

Spoke to my rather credulous law-abiding sister earlier. Early 40’s, healthy, had her first AZ jab on Friday. Been unwell since. Wonder how keen she will be for the second dose. Don’t think I helped by saying “great, you’ve avoided a mild illness by getting a mild illness”

And you could have added, ‘with the possibility of later getting a very serious illness or death’!

Maybe my back of a {fag-packet | hanky | napkin} calcs she’d be 1 in 60,000 chance of death with COVID and 1 in 28,000 with COVID pseudo-vaccines.

This doesn’t surprise me at all – I suspect that bubbling just beneath the surface trouble is brewing regarding these vaccines – more and more cases are beginning to emerge of some very serious side effects and questions are now finally being asked about the safety of these vaccines. I’m glad I took Mike Yeadon’s advice and decided to wait a while – see how things pan out over the coming months before deciding what to do – I was a frequent traveller abroad before the lockdowns last year but I’m willing to put this on hold to see what happens with these vaccines – best piece of advice I ever took … thanks Mike.

I really don’t understand how anyone could accept any of these jabs until at the very least the relevant Phase 3 trials are over. That is simply a no-brainer in my opinion – though, admittedly, it is becoming increasingly obvious what a big percentage of our population qualifies.

The current vaccine roll out is the Phase 3 trial is it not ?

Actually the average compliance with a second dose of a 2 dose course of a vaccine (for adults) is about 75%, so only 8% not turning up for the second dose is pretty good. Shows what an effective job the campaign of unnecessary fear has been. Especially considering the relatively high level of side effects.

Same issue happening in the UK re availability of Pfizer for second dose, according to a thread on Mumsnet I just read. They are having to send people home again.

According to the Yellow card reports on adverse reactions to the Covid vaccines held by the MHRA, up to 16th April there were 635 deaths and 624,633 adverse reactions including strokes, paralysis, heart attacks, debilitating skin rashes, blindness, deafness and many other serious conditions liable to affect quality of life. These have NOT been reported by the MSM.

So, it seems to me that there is quite a lot to worry about when deciding whether to submit oneself to the experimental medication, especially if one has submitted to the first dose and suffered a reaction.

Don’t mean to sound a right bleedin’ clever clogs (honest!) but I have been pointing this out for yonks now. I mean the fact that the MSM are not reporting side effects apart from their precious “blood clot” one and although serious is but one of many. Last time I looked (a couple of days ago) there were 90 pages of AZ side effects and I think 70 or 80 pages of Pfizer’s. That’s quite a lot in my book. 😀
